Humpa at Stornoret

Last weekend I spent some time in the woods. It is one of my favorite things, to go enjoy the slow life. The Swedes called our excursion a 'humpa' although I'm not sure most of them knew what a humpa was. But had a humpa we did! Here is the photographic evidence(:

  1. What exactly is everyone doing with that yarn?

  2. Oh! So everyone is working on an ancient swedish handicraft called "nålbindning" which is sort of like knitting or crocheting, except that it is done with a sort of large, flat, blunt needle. And it involves some wrapping of yarn around the thumb. And then it somehow ends with felting. So a few people were carving their needles in preparation.
